Hi Rainrider!
Yes, I did make it to Dover. We pulled into town with 45 other members of the Southern Cruisers about 1:45 p.m. and, believe it or not, my husband and I parked right by the beach! We drove all down the main street from Cockshutt Rd. and could not find two parking spots near each other. So we just kept on riding, turned up a sidestreet thinking we'd have better luck there (what a mistake!) Somehow, we wound up right with two spots just off the main strip, right around the corner from Callahan's.
What a zoo that place was! I've never seen so many bikes or people in one place.
The only negative part to my day was that someone moved my bike. I had parked it beside four other bikes, all of which were in front of a driveway which had been chained off. The driveway had another outlet to the street as it connected to the gravel lot of Callahan's. When we got back to our bikes a few hours later, I panicked for a second because my bike was gone. Someone had moved it into a bushy area behind the chain. I suppose if someone had needed to get out of that driveway, they might have moved it. It was obviously a rider who moved it because it was in neutral (I'd left it in gear) and there was a piece of wood under the kickstand. There were no marks or damage, but I still didn't appreciate anyone touching my baby. I think that's very poor etiquette. I should have had the forks locked, but who thinks of locking their forks in Port Dover on Friday the 13th? It also bugs me because the driver could have just driven out the back way, instead of moving my bike and how many others? I know that the driveway has another exit because that's how I got out from my "new" parking spot.
We are heading out in about an hour to go to a "Show'n'Shine" in downtown Hamilton. It's being put on by the local HOG chapter but they have a few categories for "Offshore" motorcycles. I won't be entering mine but my husband has a '98 Honda Shadow ACE 750 which he will be entering. It has a custom solo seat, lots of extra chrome, and this winter he had a bunch of parts power-coated Candy Purple. The bike is black, the seat is black with purple flames sewn into the sides, and it has a purple kickstand (among other purple things.) I love the kickstand! Anyhow, I hope he wins because I think he'll be disappointed if he doesn't, but the bike doesn't have a custom paintjob so that may hurt him. We'll see at about 5:00!
